Michal Jahoda počas rezidencie

Michal Jahoda started playing bass guitar more than 18 years ago, creating and producing music for the last 15 of those years. He collaborated with leading artists of the Norwegian experimental scene, such as Else Olsen Storesund and Ole Andre Farstad. As a composer, he worked on projects for companies such as Baťa, Preciosa, Česká televízia, and Škoda Auto.

He co-founded and performed in several musical groups – e.g. Momma Knows Best and Black Hole Constellation. He played more than 400 concerts and performed at various festivals such as Brutal Assault, or Rock for People. His main focus is on experimental music, avant-garde, industrial and ambient music with elements of metal.

He studied at a private art school in Banská Bystrica, specializing in jazz bass guitar with Robert Ragan and rock bass guitar with Igor Fudra, later he had private lessons with Juraj Griglák. He completed several workshops with musicians such as Marcus Miller, Billy Sheehan, jazz workshops and summits of music composers in Prague, various online seminars, e.g. with Tomas Haake, with bands like Tool, Dillinger Escape Plan, also at Berklee with bass players like Victor Wooten, Henrik Linder, Tony Levin, Oteil Burbridge, Rickey Minor.

The goal of the residency

During the residency he devoted himself to writing, composing, recording, arranging, producing – simply everything related to music creation. He worked on an album, various singles and on a music video.

What did the residency provide you and why would you recommend it to others?

“The residence provided me with a very good background for concentration, creation and cooperation. It’s one of the places where I’ve created the most music in a short amount of time so far. Thanks to the atmosphere of the place itself, which was created by the community of Malý Berlín and their friends, as well as the space with great conditions for my style of work, I was able to concentrate on creating as much as possible. These are the main reasons why I would recommend the residence in Malý Berlín to others.”
