Date of residency: September 19 – November 24, 2024

Sopiko is an interdisciplinary artist based in Tbilisi, Georgia. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the School of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design at the Free University of Tbilisi. Through her research-based practice, Sheitnishvili explores the complex relationships between Georgian language, urban noise, voice, and visual representations of sound. Her work explores how these elements shape and transform the experience of public spaces. She explores how language itself is constantly reshaped through technological influences in the modern environment, which she presents through a variety of media including installations, sound works, writing, and photography.

Objective of the residency:

During the residency, she focused on a new art project that deals with the connection between visual art and sound. It explores the impact of environmental noise, public environments that affect our lives or cultural identity. The project builds on her previous work while allowing her to push the boundaries of her artistic practice in a new and thought-provoking context. The resulting works will be presented to the public at an open studio event.
